Manly mothers Katie Fitzgerald and Suki Walker-Smith seem to know the true meaning of ‘one good turn deserves another’ better than most.
When Mrs Walker-Smith was recently at a supermarket with her two young children, she got to the check-out and realised she didn’t have enough money to pay for $60 worth of goods.
She also forgot the PIN for another bank card.
“All of this goes on for about 10 minutes where I’m a bit panicked,” she said.
“The kids are already eating the snacks that haven’t been paid for.”
Ms Fitzgerald was in the same queue as Mrs Walker-Smith.
Without hesitation, or knowing the fellow mum, she paid the $60 and asked for nothing in return.
The two parted ways before Mrs Walker- Smith posted something on the Northern Beaches Mums Facebook page thanking Ms Fitzgerald.
The post received more than 1600 Facebook likes.
“I got home and thought nothing about it and put in on Northern Beaches Mums,” Mrs Walker- Smith said.
She then tracked down Ms Fitzgerald through the page, to which Ms Fitzgerald again rejected being paid back but accepted Mrs Walker-Smith’s suggestion to pay the $60 to a charity of her choosing.
The money went to NETS – an emergency service for sick babies.
