HARBORD Diggers has unveiled a raft of dining options at the temporary club.

The star will be a rooftop Italian restaurant, general manager Dale Hunt said.

“It will be a high-end bistro that will have that wow factor with a southern Italian menu and great views,” Mr Hunt said.

“We have brought in Antonio Ruggerino as the head chef.”

Ruggerino has joined club from Verde, an East Sydney restaurant, lauded by French restaurant guide, Gault & Millau.

“Verde is a three-hatted restaurant, so when our new restaurant opens it is going to be something special,” he said.

“It will be called Gio and it has been named after Antonio’s grandmother.”

The temporary club in the south east corner will also have more casual dining choices. The new Dig Inn Cafe and Bar will offer ground floor facilities and an outdoor pop up diner, Diggers Diner, a 1950s style van imported from the UK, will sell street food, coffees and snacks.

As well as three dining options, Harbord Diggers will have its own providores, selling locally-sourced produce including honey, jams and pickles and ingredients from the club’s restaurants, Mr Hunt said.

“Diggers Local Providores will bring the ingredients of Gio and Dig Inn to your shopping basket,” he said.

“We are currently looking for a local honey supplier.”

Facilities will cater for changing lifestyle demands.

“The old club was 85 year old, we are building new facilities to meet a community needed for food, drink, entertainment and living for seniors,” Mr Hunt said,

Harbord Diggers’ $160 redevelopment got the green light in 2014. Stage One which includes the new club 90 childcare places and large proportion of seniors living residences — Watermark Freshwater, is expected to be complete late 2017.

Stage 2 commences in early 2018 and will work on the fitness centre, aquatic centre and remaining seniors living residences.

The club has remained open during the rebuild.

Diggers Diner and Dig Inn are due to open on April 22. Gio will open on April 29.
