Brookvale Hotel reopens on Sydney’s northern beaches after renovations

Brookvale Hotel is ready for the footy season after undergoing a six-month renovation.

The footy season is back and so is the Brookvale Hotel. After six-months of work, the fully renovated pub reopened in time for the Sea Eagles first home game.

The pub has kept its integrity, co owner Charles Kelly, from Burst Hotel Group, said.

“We’ve gone retro — we’ve had old fashioned pub tiles copied for the redesign,” Mr Kelly said.

“We want to keep the soul of the hotel so that we appeal to traditional and new customers.”

The Brooky’s iconic facade on Pittwater Rd remains.

“The beer garden at the front, the public bar and the gaming room have been spruced up,” Mr Kelly said.

“The back section has been redesigned with a new outdoor beer garden, a brasserie and a carpark.”

The new brasserie is smaller, there is a seating capacity of 174, and there is a new menu. Home-made pizza has been introduced and customer-cooked steaks are a thing of the past.

Feedback from the public has been positive, Mr Kelly said.

“We’re very happy with it and I haven’t heard a negative comment,” he said.

The pub footprint has reduced by 56 per cent following the carpark sale, Mr Kelly said.

Burst sold the 3456sq m site with approval for a five-storey building of 73 units, 15 commercial spaces and an underground carpark for a reported figure exceeding $15 million to developer Ray Touma last July.

Demolishing the pub was never an option, Mr Kelly said.

“My family is very attached to the hotel, we love it and we want to keep it.”

The Kellys have owned the property since 1999.
