Baby boom suburb Dee Why tops births in 2015

It’s the Sydney suburb that saw a huge boom in babies born last year — and other suburbs in the region didn’t even come close. One mum reveals why she thinks it’s an ideal spot to have a newborn.

DEE WHY is the baby boom capital of the northern beaches with more babies born there last year than any other peninsula suburb.

Mums from Dee Why brought home 364 bundles of joy in 2015, according to new statistics from the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

That made it the 19th most fertile town or suburb in NSW for the fifth year in a row.

Dee Why’s Amy Van Eersel gave birth to her first child Ava in April last year.

She and her husband Chris have been living in Dee Why for nearly three years and think it is a great suburb to bring up children.

“It’s got the beaches and it’s close to everything,” Mrs Van Eersel said.

“We’re a two-minute walk from the shops and there’s daycare nearby and good schools.

“When I’m out and about in Dee Why, I see lots of mums with prams and young children.”

Prams are also a common sight in Manly, with 268 babies born there last year.

It was the only other peninsula suburb to appear on the Registry’s list of Top Baby Suburbs, coming in at 44th place in the state.

Frenchs Forest had 129 newborn residents while Balgowlah mums had 126 new bubs.

But our local birthrate pales in comparison with the western suburbs.

In Blacktown which was first on the list of Top Baby Suburbs 784 babies were born last year and Auburn wasn’t far behind with 740 newborns.
