Amazing photo of gentle shark at Manly’s marine park
AN underwater photographer took this incredible photo of snorkellers floating above a dusky whaler shark at Manly - now he hopes to track the swimmers down.
A SCUBA diver has captured this magnificent underwater photograph of snorkellers watching a dusky whaler at Cabbage Tree Bay in Manly.
Peter McGee, 51, from Balgowlah, regularly dives and snorkels at the protected marine park, off Shelly Beach and in Sydney Harbour.
Mr McGee said dusky whaler sharks, which are harmless and gentle, can be seen in Manly from January until the waters cool down.
“I remember 30 years ago you were lucky to see a fish in Manly because of the spear fishing and pollution,” said Mr McGee, who has lived on the beaches all his life.
“Now the numbers and the diversity of marine life are phenomenal.”
He said it was a perfect example of how nature can bounce back if protected and would like to see more waters around northern beaches preserved.
