Schoolboy teaches pupils how to stop the cyberbullies in You Tube video

A  STUDENT has made a film on cyberbullying after a school survey found 60 per cent of pupils knew someone who had been bullied online and 40 per cent had been bullied themselves.

Tye Bate, 17, made the seven-minute film #Blocked for a school project.

The promising filmmaker decided to publish it online to help educate young people about cyberbullying with a clear message on how to prevent it happening.

He said as part of his project he conducted a survey which was sent out via email to pupils at Cromer Campus.

Of the 50 replies, 60 per cent said they knew of someone who had suffered cyberbullying, while 40 per cent said they had been victims.

The confronting movie, which has already had more than 500 views on YouTube, shows a girl considering suicide after personal details about her are made public on social media.

Tye of Dee Why, said the film encourages teenagers to turn off their computer or mobile; or block people, if they feel uncomfortable with a conversation.

It also highlights the dangers of revealing personal information online and shows how bullies’ actions affect victims.

“People have said the film is confronting and sad,” said Tye, who is also working with Lifeline on one of their new campaigns.

While he hasn’t undergone cyberbullying himself, he said his friends have.

“For some reason, some people feel unable to switch off their digital life,” he said.

His mum Donna, who also stars in the video, said she was happy her son was helping to publicise the issue.
