Princess Charlotte inspires Mosman and North Sydney parents

A CERTAIN little princess is having big impact on the popularity of baby names for girls, as her name has topped the list for most popular on Sydney’s lower north shore.

A CERTAIN little princess is having a big impact when it comes to baby names on Sydney’s lower north shore.

The name Charlotte has been revealed as the most popular girls’ name for 2015 alongside Oliver for boys in the area.

But not all parents have chosen the girl’s name based on the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s second child.

Neutral Bay mum Kasey Climpson had picked the name for her daughter long before the royal tot arrived.

“We picked Charlotte three years ago as I thought it was beautiful and classic,” she said.

“When the royal baby came along I said to my partner that’s going to be a popular name.”

Charlotte Quinn has just marked 12 weeks and has proved to be a champion sleeper, wracking up to 10 hours a night.

Music makes her giggle and she’s also “very cheeky”.

Karina Silva, from Waverton, also has a cheeky bub on her hands.

Her little Oliver arrived into the world in January last year and loves enjoying everything the world has to offer.

“He’s very curious, cheeky, strong willed and caring,” she said.

Ms Silva chose Oliver with her husband Carl Huber as she felt it was a strong name that would grow with their child.

There was also a language factor as they wanted a name that could be pronounced in both Spanish and English.

“My husband is from the US and I’m from Argentina,” she said.

She was surprised to hear that Oliver was the most popular name for boys in 2015 but completely understood why Charlotte was the number one.

“With the royal baby, the name appeals to a lot of people,” she said.

“I think people are looking in the last few years to bring back the traditional names.”

Parents from the Mosman and North Sydney areas fell in love with classic names last year as they fill the two top ten lists.

Princess Charlotte reigned at the top but her big brother George also inspired lots of mums and dads as the name made number 29 on the list.

Other popular lower north shore baby names released by the NSW Registry of Births Deaths & Marriages included Grace, Olivia and Emily for girls and Thomas, William and Jack for the boys.

It is an early release of the 2015 baby names for the lower north shore and the final statistics will be available in April as registrations continue to be processed.
