LITTLE changes are being made to Cammeray Golf Club to better accommodate junior golfers.
The club has become only the second place in Sydney to sign up for the US Kids Golf family course program.
US Kids Golf will work with the club to make the course more accessible to children, with two new tees at each hole to reduce the distance needed for par.
The company also offers specialist equipment and tournaments for juniors. US Kids Golf Australia marketing manager Danielle Wallis said children often found traditional golf courses confronting.
“It’s incredibly intimidating in terms of the distance needed to hit the ball to get to the greens,” she said.
Wallis said when the club was approached, they were more than happy to embrace the program.
“Cammeray is keen on boosting their junior ranks. They see this as a great way to get kids involved.”
She said neither parents nor their children needed to be members of the club to take part.
“The whole concept of membership has kept people away from clubs,” Wallis said.
Children as young as three have been known to take part at other family courses, with tournaments attracting those between five and 14.
The Cammeray family course will be officially launched with a parent-child event on December 13.
