A western Sydney casual dining institution is set to open its first charcoal chicken outlet in a beachside Sydney community. Digest all the succulent details here.

Cult Sydney charcoal chicken chain El Jannah takes on breakfast

A chain of charcoal chicken outlets that’s developed a cult-like following across western Sydney is set to open its doors for the first time on the northern beaches.

El Jannah, founded at Granville, offers “Lebanese-Australian food” cooked over open wood fires, and will open a franchise at Westfield Warringah Mall, Brookvale.

It will be its 24th venue in NSW since the first store began cooking chooks in 1998.

The outlet is taking over the former premises of the Quattro Formaggi Deli Cafe on Dale St, on the northern side of the mall near Supercheap Auto, Fitness First and Bunnings.

It’s expected to add some succulent competition in the local casual dining scene with the mall already home to takeaway chicken shops including KFC and Oporto.

The franchise is looking to open in June.

It is now on the lookout for workers and will employ a mix of full time, part time and casual staff.

As well as charcoal and fried chicken, the menu includes crispy falafel rolls, burgers and chips as well as a “shawarma meal” with shawarma beef, tomatoes, parsley, onion, pickles and Lebanese bread.

Customers also rave about El Jannah’s tangy and creamy garlic sauce.

The chain recently launched a breakfast menu at some of its restaurants, which includes Middle Eastern style offerings such as a kaki sandwich made with traditional Lebanese sesame bread.

There is no confirmation yet that the Brookvale outlet will open for breakfast

El Jannah Chicken was founded by Lebanese migrant Andre Estephan who opened his original shop with his sister Samira in 1997 before branching out on his own to found El Jannah with his wife Carole.

As well as the NSW restaurants, El Jannah has outlets in the ACT and Victoria.

The chain has a presence on the north shore with a store at Crows Nest. It recently lodged a development application with Ku-ring-gai Council for an outlet on the Pacific Highway at Lindfield.

El Jannah’s head of marketing Adam Issa said it was “excited to continue spreading the legend of El Jannah’s charcoal chicken” with the opening at Warringah Mall.

“Food that is made to be shared is the heart of everything we do at El Jannah, and we look forward to more people experiencing our famous menu when we open in June,’’ Mr Issa said.

“In the meantime, we’re on the lookout for local legends to join the El Jannah team and bring our undeniably delicious menu to the masses.’’
