Single in Sydney: Sarah sees a psychic who describes the man she’s going to meet and where and how

SINGLE in Sydney’s Sarah Swain takes herself off to see a third-generation psychic who says she’s going to meet a man. He wears a hat, maybe a waistcoat and there’s an English pub too.

Psychic Deborah McLoughlin describes the man Single in Sydney's Sarah is going to meetf

JOURNALIST Sarah Swain has been single (but dating) for longer than she cares to remember. That’s because it’s tough out there, as any single will tell you, so to bring hope to others across the city, she’s sharing her no-holds-barred adventures on the Sydney single scene every week.

A Man in a Flat Cap

I’M going to meet a man.

I know, because Deborah Menderin has seen him.

And, unlike the vampire I snared at the Hot Kandi Haunted Mansion Halloween Party, he’s not going to ghost me (it was a great night, but I ain’t giving my number to any more blokes, I swear, because they never blooming use it).

Anyway, Deborah’s a psychic and, after a colleague told me she’d helped her girlfriends’ figure out the best blokes on tinder (though she’s keen to point out it’s not actually a service she offers), I emailed her straight away to book a reading.

And she has plenty of success — including telling a friend the (unusual) name of the girl he’d meet, who he later married.

So could she do the same for me?

After a quick spray of lemon myrtle in her calm, Balgowlah reading room, she closed her eyes and stared telling me about my man ...

1. He wears an old fashioned cap.

“They keep putting this cap on him and it’s not naff so don’t worry. It’s like something from the ‘30s and it looks a bit tweedish,” Deborah tells me when she contacts the spirit world by closing her eyes.

“And I feel like I want to put a waistcoat on him too.” Hmm. Who is this guy, Guy Ritchie?

“He’s standing there with a beer. It keeps looking like an English pub.”

(I make a note to Google English pubs in Sydney).

2 He works in music - or something with sets

“He’s done quite well for himself and there’s travel all around him. I keep being shown some quite exotic locations as well,” she declares. Oh! I imagine an overwater bungalow in The Maldives.

“There’s this old U2 album, The Joshua Tree ... he could have been connected with the desert. And it may have something to do with the music industry ... the music industry has been around him ... sets, it’s all got stuff to do with sets.” She said SETS people. Sets.

3 He’s pretty quiet

“They’re not like Nigel-no-friends ... it’s a quieter energy about this person,” she tells me.

“They’re not working the room with you but they’re not holding you back from doing that,” she adds.

Well, dating confident blokes hasn’t worked out, but I don’t like guys too scared to go inside a cafe on their own to meet me, as happened one time on a date, when I walked right past him sitting on a wall outside, Loser.

4 I cook for him

“Can you smell pancakes?” she asks. I can’t.

“I can smell pancakes, and I can see you cooking pancakes for each other.”

Well, that’s fine, as long as he washes up.

7 He’s an ‘L’ type

“There could be an L in his name,” she said

Luke? Lee? Lachlan, Leo? OMG its Leonardo!

8 He doesn’t like drinking

“He’s really old fashioned and he’s not a big drinker this person,” said Deborah.

Hmm, as long as he doesn’t mind me having a couple?

9 I’m going to meet him in real life

Forget trawling tinder, RSVP, Bumble, and Happn, I’m going to meet this bloke in real life — at a work-related event. Shock.

But what’s more shocking is that she says I could meet him back home. In the UK. When I have no trips planned and no intention of leaving.

I feel a bit worried, but she’s sure.

“Either you go back home and you meet them, which is potentially why I kept being shown that bloody hat thing, or they’ve lived there before and you go together,” she said.

She adds: “I don’t feel like you’ll meet them tomorrow but I don’t feel like they’re that far away.”
