A BRITISH favourite department store is opening its first Australian shop on the northern beaches.
John Lewis will unveil a shop within a shop at Myer at Warringah Mall.
The news is likely to be a big hit with British expats – though only the brand’s homewares will be on offer at this stage.
Bedding, dinnerware, glassware, decorating products and bathroom accessories will all be on offer from the department store, which first opened on London’s Oxford St in 1864.
The shop will open in time for Christmas as part of the Myer revamp.
The branch is currently closed and is due to be unveiled in October.
It’s the first shop in the country to get the big refurbishment, which bosses say will be “sharper and more focused”.
It’s the latest international brand to be announced for the mall. British fashion brand Topshop is also moving in, alongside American giant Apple.
A spokeswoman for the store said: “Warringah is the first store reopening under the ‘New Myer’ five-year strategy and with this, we wanted to ensure that homewares also included a customer-desirable and wanted brand.
“John Lewis is widely recognised as the leading destination for homewares in the UK, so we believe they are the perfect partner to bring exclusively to Myer.”
More John Lewis shops are planned for Sydney CBD and Bondi next year.
John Lewis will make and sell Australian-size bedding, as British sizes are different. The company is famous for its touching Christmas adverts, which cost millions.
The Myer store had planned to remain open during refurbishment, but changed plans after works kept customers away.
A store manager, Alexis Pead, has started work, and an operator is being sought for an in-store cafe.
Brands French Connection, Scotch & Soda, Jack & Jones, Nike, Apple and MAC Cosmetics will also be new.
