Macarthur FC announce Ken Stead as inaugural director of football

The man to shape the future playing style of Macarthur FC has been announced as Ken Stead, one of the central pillars behind Brisbane Roar’s A-League dominance between 2010 and 2014.
The 57-year-old, who has also held footballing positions with the Socceroos, Iranian National Team, Scottish Football Association and Wellington Phoenix, will lead the formation of the Bulls’ football department as the club’s inaugural director of football.
Stead said the opportunity to build something special at Macarthur FC was impossible to resist.
“The region has impressive participation rates and is known as a hotbed of football talent,” he said.
“To shape a football structure that will deliver new opportunities and pathways for these young players is a very exciting project.”
Inaugural head coach Ante Milicic will have full control of all first team matters with Stead to build a long-term whole-of-club structure, working with local associations, clubs and coaches.
Macarthur FC executive chairman Rabieh Krayem said he was thrilled to welcome Stead to the club and described him as a “safe pair of hands”.
“Ken is someone who knows the game as well as anyone and understands not only what we want to achieve, but how we want to achieve it,” he said.
The news follows Monday’s announcement that the club will be based at the yet-to-be-built Campbelltown Sports and Health Centre of Excellence.
Stead will begin his role in December.
