The highly-anticipated restoration of the historic Camden Vale Milk Depot site could be around the corner, with the developer telling the Chronicle construction will begin in the “near future”.
The prominent site located on Camden’s Argyle St was controversially given the green light to transform into an inner-city inspired dining hub in 2017, despite opposition from sections of the community.
The $8 million project will see existing heritage building restored and modified to feature high quality dining and bar offerings, with a new two-storey building to include a function centre and eatery.
The developer originally said construction on the project, to be known as The Milk Factory, would begin in mid-2018. In January last year, the developer said works would begin in coming months. As of today, no significant works have taken place.
Bespoke Development’s George Saaib, in charge of the project, told the Chronicle the delay
was due to “civil design changes”, required to make the project viable.
“Bespoke Development views The Milk Factory as a premier site in the Camden town centre and is committed to restoring this wonderful building to its former glory,” he said.
“We understand this site is important to the Camden community which is why we are taking the time to get the building right and ensure it has long term quality tenants.
“To secure the viability of the site we needed to gain council approval for civil design changes and hours of operation.
“This has now been recently been obtained and work will get underway in the near future.”
An extension to the venue's future operating hours was approved by Camden Council last month, which will see the venue open from 6am to midnight once complete.
