The developer behind the bold vision of delivering a vibrant entertainment hub in the heart of Elderslie has sensationally scrapped plans for an 80-room hotel and restaurant.
Instead, the lavish ‘Elderslie House’ proposal will purely be a super-sized function centre with the new plans to double the proposed building’s capacity from 350 to 737 people.
The proposed development would be located on the vacant site neighbouring Sadek Motor Group, on Harrington St.
Original plans lodged to Camden Council in 2017 featured 80 self-serviced hotel rooms connected in a U-shape, with a feature swimming pool in the centre of the “U”. A restaurant was also included in those plans.
The original proposal was withdrawn more than 18 months ago, with the new development application recently on exhibition.
A spokesman for Bespoke Development said the hotel change of heart came after speaking to council staff and reviewing what the community needs.
“Bespoke Development is committed to working with Camden Council and the community to gain approval to build a state-of-the-art multipurpose function centre at Elderslie,” he said.
“The decision to focus on creating a multipurpose function centre rather than a mixed-use hotel is in response to a review of community needs and discussions with council.
“If council approves the current application our aim is to work with local organisations to create a great resource for the Camden community.”
