The world’s most iconic song contest may feature a special Camden flavour this year.

Camden-raised singer songwriter Alfie Arcuri, a former winner of The Voice, has been selected to perform at Eurovision — Australia Decides, a special television event with 10 hopefuls vying for the chance to be Australia’s representative at this year’s Eurovision.

Arcuri, 30, will perform a self-penned ballad titled To Myself,a letter to his teenage “Camden” self.

“I am really excited,” he said. “I wrote the song to empower people. It is basically a letter to my teenage self, that young Camden Alfie, which is pretty important and pretty special to me.

“Not everyone will be singing songs they wrote but I think I perform best when it’s an actual story of mine.”

Arcuri said he never thought he would have the opportunity to potentially represent Australia at Eurovision.

Arcuri said his Italian heritage meant he was familiar with the melodies of Eurovision, but he never once thought he would perform on the Eurovision stage.

“I am a massive fan of Eurovision and can’t deny the scale of the event itself,” he said.

“I got more into it when Australia became involved.

“Dami Im’s performance was one of those moments where I thought, ‘Oh God, we might have a chance here’. I never thought I personally would have the opportunity.”

Arcuri’s career has gone from strength to strength since being crowned winner of The Voice Australia in 2016.

He recently finished a national tour with Samantha Jade.

The former architect, who is planning to release a new EP this year, said following his passion had been special.

“Music is my absolute passion, it’s in my blood, and nothing has ever made me feel the way that making music does,” he said.

“This is 100 per cent me.”

Arcuri has called on the region to support him once more.

“Camden, please get behind me,” he said. “I need everyone again, like The Voice, where the community got me through to the end.”
