A man accused of impersonating a police officer in the Camden area last month is on the hunt for character references after he briefly appeared at Picton Local Court this morning.
Spring Farm man Peter Gordon Reid told Magistrate Ian Cheetham he had applied for a Legal Aid grant and is looking for “some character references” to help deal with three charges of impersonating a police officer.
The 47 year old father is alleged to have impersonated a police officer on three separate occasions across a 24 hour period last month.
He has not yet entered a plea to all charges.
Police say Reid approached a group of boys and introduced himself as a police officer outside a Mt Annan fast food outlet about 7.30pm on May 1.
He has also been charged with assaulting one of the males.
Later that evening Reid is alleged to have visited a Spring Farm home and again introduced himself as a police officer, claiming he had the authority to search the resident’s vehicle.
On the third occasion, the Spring Farm man is alleged to have introduced himself as a policeman to a teenager before stealing his Go Pro camera and driver’s licence.
The current matter will return to Picton Local Court on July 9 where Reid is expected to enter a plea.
His bail conditions, which include reporting to Narellan Police Station three times a week and a curfew between the hours of 7pm and 4.30am, has been ordered to continue.
