Plans for an $8 billion Sydney World Trade Centre continue to march forward with the man behind the proposal hopeful the project would be in operation by 2026.

The proposed centre would feature four towers, an international convention centre and commercial space for multinational companies, all in the vicinity of the under-construction Western Sydney Airport.

An 120ha plot on the southern fringe of Bringelly, 10km away from Camden, is one of the sites identified for the project.

The project has the potential to soar to 100 storeys.

An unsolicited proposal was lodged to the Department of Premier and Cabinet last year and remains in the initial assessment stage.

A Department spokesman said the project’s details would remain confidential until it reached the next stage of the unsolicited proposal process.

The project’s proponents, Aerotropolis Group, remain confident the project would be in operation by 2026.

“We wish to see the World Trade Centre Sydney operational in its state-of-the-art building as early as possible,” CEO and managing director Jomon Varghese said.

“The current expectation is 2026.

“World Trade Centre Sydney will enable local businesses to bring their goods and services to many of the 325-plus across the world who are represented through the World Trade Centres Association network.

“It will create the much needed employment in the new CBD that is coming up in Western Sydney.”

The Sydney World Trade Centre is projected to create more than 43,000 direct jobs.

Mr Varghese told the Macarthur Chronicle last October that a Sydney World Trade Centre would stimulate Western Sydney’s economy and be a “great relief” to the region.

An economic impact analysis by PwC Australia projected the Sydney World Trade Centre would create 43,500 direct jobs and 45,000 indirect employment opportunities.
