Liverpool West Public School has undergone extensive cleaning after a parent in the school community tested positive for COVID-19.

The NSW Education Department confirmed a parent had been diagnosed with the infection late Thursday, April 9, after school had finished for the term.

NSW Health immediately began close contact tracing and those identified as a close contact were contacted and are self-isolating.

“There is no further action required by the school. It is a personal matter for those involved and they will be supported directly by NSW Health,” a NSW Education Department spokeswoman said.

The school was cleaned and “ready … to resume operations”, the spokeswoman said.

“The safety and wellbeing of our students is of paramount importance to us all times. As such we will continue to work closely with NSW Health to ensure that all necessary health advised is adhered to.”

NSW Health announced on Monday Liverpool was one of 12 areas where testing criteria will be relaxed to concentrate on infections without a known source.

Other areas include the inner-west, Penrith, Randwick, Waverley, Woollahra, Blacktown, Cumberland, Westmead, Ryde, Manning and Lake Macquarie.

There have been 221 confirmed cases as of 8pm on Sunday in the South Western Sydney Local Health District, which covers Liverpool, Fairfield, Bankstown, Campbelltown, Camden, Wollondilly and Wingecarribee.

This includes a known cluster at a Prestons windows shop, which had 11 positive cases.

A total of 15,697 tests have been conducted, with 28 cases recorded in Fairfield, 46 in Liverpool and 85 in Canterbury-Bankstown.

There are 33 cases in Campbelltown, 36 in Camden and between one and four cases in Wollondilly.
