Health authorities are targeting community transmission of COVID-19 in Sydney’s southwest, with increased testing to be conducted in Liverpool.
NSW Health announced on Monday the region was one of 12 areas where testing criteria will be relaxed to concentrate on infections without a known source.
Other areas include the inner-west, Penrith, Randwick, Waverley, Woollahra, Blacktown, Cumberland, Westmead, Ryde, Manning and Lake Macquarie.
“These areas have been prioritised as they have a small number of cases of community transmission where the source has not been identified,” NSW Health stated.
Those with a fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath and live, work or have been active in these areas should call their GP or healthdirect, or visit a public COVID-19 clinic.
Those who test negative for COVID-19 will be notified via text message on the same day they are tested.
Currently it can take up to a week for doctors to notify patients if they are negative.
A Prestons window company became one of the latest hotspots in the southwest, closing after 11 cases of coronavirus were confirmed at the weekend.
Five staff members at Vista Windows, on Jedda Rd, tested positive for COVID-19, while six further cases were linked to staff cases.
