A cult favourite fried chicken franchise has been given the green light to transform a vacant block into a drive-through restaurant in Sydney’s southwest.

A cult favourite fried chicken franchise has been given the green light to transform a vacant block into a drive-through restaurant in Sydney’s southwest.

The first KFC restaurant in Australia opened in 1968 at Guildford and has continued to grow with more than 200 stores in the state.

Now, more than 50 years later KFC has employed more than 40,000 Aussies and served more than 2 million customers every week with its world-famous fried chicken.

Liverpool City Council approved the $1.97 million plans which will see a KFC restaurant on Camden Valley Way, Edmondson Park, near an Aldi supermarket and McDonalds, after a development application was lodged by Bdai Pty Ltd.

The 1802sq m premises will have indoor seating for 36 customers, a drive through and 18 carparking spaces through Nivelle Rd and Birdwood Lane.

The restaurant will operate from 10am to 10pm seven days a week.

Planning documents talk up the positive “economic development” of the project as it would service existing and “emerging communities of new land release areas”.

The KFC would be located next to a $14m commercial precinct that would include retail and recreational facilities.

The KFC on Camden Valley Way, Edmondson Park will have drive-through.

The precinct will include a single and part two-storey development with an office, retail and commercial premises, food and drink outlets, health services and indoor recreational facilities.

Major population growth is projected for Edmondson Park which, as at the 2021 Census, was home to 12,080 people and 3099 families.
