Supermarket giant Woolworths has revealed plans for a multimillion-dollar shopping centre in one of the fastest growing suburbs in Sydney’s southwest.

A $35m development application has been submitted to Liverpool Council for a Woolworths supermarket, BWS, alongside a range of specialty retailers and service providers at 260 Eighth Ave, Austral - land owned by Woolworths.

A Woolworths spokesman said the retail giant was excited to deliver a high quality retail development at Austral.

“We believe our plans will contribute positively to Austral, creating hundreds of new jobs and providing a wider range of fresh produce, grocery and household items for the community,” he said.

“We’re working very closely with Liverpool Council and look forward to receiving feedback on our proposal from local residents over the coming months.”

If approved, the total site would be 18,170sq m and the centre would operate across two levels and include commercial and retail tenancies, two kiosks, and a public piazza.

The lower ground level would feature the public piazza, commercial and specialty retailers and a shared lobby with vertical lift access to the upper levels.

The upper ground floor would include the Woolworths supermarket, BWS, direct-to-boot service, specialty retail stores, loading bay and a parking area accessed via a pedestrian link.

The total retail area has been earmarked for 1521sq m and the commerical area - including a potential medical centre, office spaces and veterinary hospital - for 1858sq m.

A total of 303 parking spaces, four electric charging spaces and four direct to boot spaces would be constructed and public domain works on Eighth Ave, Auger St and Warrawal Ave would include a pedestrian pathway, roadways and on street parking for 16 vehicles.

Pending council approval, the centre would operate from 6am to 12pm all week and the Woolworths and BWS would open from 6am to 12pm everyday.

According to proposed plans, three buildings would be demolished to make way for the $35m shopping centre, if approved.

When the news of the centre was posted on the Austral & Leppington Community Group on Facebook it received more than 120 comments, with many praising the news.

“Three Woolies within 10km is a bit of overkill,” the same person commented.

Another said while the new developing was “exciting”, roadworks remained a concern.
