Caroline Chamoun: Cabarita woman has kidnap conspiracy charges dropped

A woman has entered pleas on charges of conspiring to intimidate a one-time investment partner after a business deal allegedly went south.

A Cabarita woman has pleaded guilty to conspiring to intimidate a one-time investment partner after a business deal allegedly went south and left her out of pocket, although kidnap conspiracy charges were dropped.

Caroline Chamoun, 44, of Cabarita, pleaded guilty to two charges of conspiring to intimidate two separate victims at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday. A further two charges of conspiring to kidnap and conspiring to cause grievous bodily harm were withdrawn.

The Daily Telegraph previously revealed Chamoun was arrested in December, days before Christmas, and was charged with allegedly paying $10,000 to have a man kidnapped after she had been left out of pocket following property and investment deals.

Sources alleged Chamoun had made initial contact to a third party in the hope of allegedly extorting the man.

The kidnap conspiracy charges have all now been withdrawn.

Chamoun was arrested at her waterfront home which is understood to have been bought for more than $4.2 million in 2011.

Heavily-armed officers from the Raptor Squad carried out a dawn raid of the home.

Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) records list her as director and secretary of JC Chamoun Investments, which was formed in 2017.

Chamoun was represented by high-profile criminal lawyer Daniel Wakim when she appeared in person court to enter her pleas.

Mr Wakim indicated that a section 14 application would be sought – which would have the charges dismissed on mental health grounds – but if unsuccessful Chamoun would proceed to sentence, which will be dealt with in Burwood Local Court on December 19.
