There was a schoolboy rival of Gout Gout and a couple of sons of NRL guns playing on day one of the Sydney trials for the Australian schools and under 18 nationals being played in Queensland from July 7
Players from across the state hit the pitch at Shore Fields at Northbridge for a long day of play showcasing the best school and under 18 rugby talent in NSW.
Among them was Beau Alexander from northern beaches school Saint Augustine’s, the son of Penrith legend Greg Alexander.
In an AICES jersey was Buster Hindmarsh, son of rugby league star Nathan.
On a strong GPS II side was one of the fastest men on any of the fields, Bailey Roberts-Lintmeijer from Newington.
Late last year the young gun lined up against sprint sensation Gout Gout at the Australians age athletics championships and finished a creditable fourth.
In this race rising star of world athleteics Gout Gout, just 17, won in 10.17 w +0.9. In the same race Roberts-Lintmeijer came home in a snappy 10.75.
Trials continue today at Forshaw Park with selectors then meeting late Friday to pull together the schools and NSW teams heading to the Sunshine Coast for the Australian schools and under 18s national championships from July 6.
DAY ONE RESULTS
On Thursday GPS 3rd XV opened the day with a big 36-0 win over AICES.
The GPS 2nds then scored a 28-7 win over ISA 2nds.
GPS 1st XV made it a clean run in the next match, beating ISA 15-13 in a close encounter.
CCC then took on a well sized NSW Country side in an entertainer, eventually taking the match 27-12.
CAS 2nds then defeated Sydney in a high scoring 49-21 encounter.
The next game saw CAS 1sts beat CHS 1sts 43-7.
GPS 2nds then came out for their second win, beating Sydney 33-19.
The GPS 1st then beat CHS 1sts 45-0 and the CCC 1sts beat AICES 1sts 22-0.
CAS 2nds beat ISA 2nds 26-10 and GPS 3rds defeated NSW Country 26-5.
CAS 1sts then came out ahead 15-5 in their encounter with ISA.
