Ricky Colosimo will bring his Hills training Stateside in a professional match in North Carolina next weekend.
After pulling out of Commonwealth Games state selection in 2004 due to injury, the Annangrove boxer took a break from the sport and started travelling.
During his travels, he teamed up with legendary trainer Buddy McGirt in New York and what was supposed to be a four-day visit turned into four months.
Colosimo, who has competed in 25 amateur fights, has returned to the United States for his second professional fight.
The bout will be held at the Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum on December 10.
“I love the challenge of boxing,” Colosimo said.
“It’s not even about the fighting – it’s the discipline and thinking that it takes to be good.
“Hours and hours of dedication in the gym, training morning and nights, dieting, running, sparring – it’s like a chess match for me.
“There is no greater test.
“Each time you enter the ring, you have to conquer your fears.”
Colosimo, who trains regularly at Nex Level Fitness in Rouse Hill and Clean Shred Transformation and Performance Centre in Castle Hill, also has plans to hold a “Hills Fight Night” at his Hillside Hotel in Castle Hill in the new year.
“I want to bring a fight night to the Hills, because there is a lot of great boxing talent here that people are unaware of – so many good young fighters that need to be given some recognition,” he said.
“And it would be great for them to fight in their hometowns.”
