Dural race driver Emily Duggan powered through the final round of the Series X3 NSW to finish in fifth place last month.

Duggan charged through the field in the day’s second race in the final of the 2016 Series X3 NSW for Hyundai Excel race cars, held at Sydney Motorsport Park on October 23.

While Duggan had hoped for third place after a strong season, a mechanical issue ended her chances in the first five laps of Race 1.

Starting at the back of the grid for Race 2, Duggan made up 14 positions in just seven laps until she was halted when the race was red flagged.

Starting 12th on the grid for the third and final race, Duggan moved up to 10th on the first lap before a battery issue ended the day.

Duggan finished the Series X3 NSW in fifth place, with 674 points.

“Race 2 was amazing, I love door-to-door racing and finding gaps to pass, I was totally in my element,” Duggan said.

“The car was handling and braking brilliantly thanks to the Supashock and Winmax products.

“I would have preferred not to have mechanical problems in the other races but at least I gave the crowd some entertainment.

“I also had my first experience of rolling starts, which I thoroughly enjoyed.”

Duggan has spent her third consecutive weekend on a racetrack, competing in a non-championship Series X3 event at Wakefield Park Raceway.

The event followed the 24 Hours of Lemons endurance charity race last weekend.

“While 24 Hours of Lemons may not be as serious as other racing events, it was still highly competitive having cars of all varieties and drivers of different skills on track,” Duggan said.

“Being a part of this event was incredibly fun and I loved being able to support a charity doing something I love, these types of events are so important.”
