Taking over as president of the Hills Hornets Touch Football Association in 2008, Mitchell turned the club’s six teams into more than 160 in just eight years.

Under his leadership, the club has won the 2013, 2014 and 2015 Sydney Scorpion Affiliate of the Year, the 2014 and 2015 NSW Touch Affliate of the Year, and the 2016 Orange Blossom Community Contribution for Sports & Recreation award.

Mitchell has also been instrumental in developing a strong junior program at the club, building more than 100 junior teams in five years.

He has encouraged club representation at numerous community events including the Hills Relay for Life, Anzac Day, Clean Up Australia Day and Orange Blossom Festival.

He also received a Mayoral Commendation award for Citizen of the Year — Sporting Achievement at the 2016 Hills Shire Australia Day Awards.

A talented touch player himself, Mitchell has represented Australia multiple times and joined the NSW State of Origin Men’s 35 team, which took on Queensland in September.

Mitchell has been nominated for his second Service to Sport award.
