A new respite centre for people with a disability and their carers could soon call northwest Sydney home as part of a $31 million project lodged by a not-for-profit organisation.

North West Disability Services (NWDS) has lodged a proposal for 3 Money Close, Rouse Hill for a mixed-use development, including a day care centre, respite motel and warehouse units.

NWDS is a not-for-profit community organisation which advocates for and supports people with disabilities.

The organisation has several facilities across the Hills Shire, such as Baulkham Hills’ Lavender Cottage and Castle Hill’s Gemhill Cottage.

According to planning documents lodged as part of the application, the warehouse units will help support the respite motel and day care centre.

“(The warehouse) will provide additional employment opportunities and support the viability of the established centres,” planning documents state.

Under current plans, there will be eleven warehouse tenancies and off-street parking for 118 cars.

Among these warehouse units will be a respite motel and day care centre for carers and people with disabilities.

“(These facilities) will provide much needed respite accommodation and care for people with disabilities,” the developer’s plans state.

“NWDS believes in the right of people with disabilities to live and a full and valuable life within the community.”

The respite day care centre would operate between 7:30am and 6:00pm, Monday to Friday, and between 9.00am and 5.00pm on the weekend.

The day care centre will provide care for people with a disability, with room for a maximum of 80 clients and 50 staff. People at the day care centre will be taken out for social activities in the broader community.

The motel suites will provide temporary accommodation as well as kitchen facilities and carparking spaces.

If approved, the development will be constructed in two stages — first the respite day care centre and offices, second the respite motel and warehouse units.

The application will be determined over the coming months by the Hills Shire Council.
