Bold plans for an $11 million sports centre, featuring five soccer fields, a grandstand and gym, has been lodged for the heart of Dural.

The development of a new state-of-the-art sport and recreational centre has been proposed by Urban Soccer for a 2ha site at 639 Old Northern Rd, Dural.

The centre will boast five outdoor soccer playing fields, an undercover grandstand and a carpark with space for 100 cars.

There will also be a two-storey building with an indoor sports field, offices and a gymnasium on the first floor.

Planning documents lodged by Urban Soccer state there was a lack of sporting facilities in the area.

“The proposed development will provide a well-designed and modern multipurpose indoor and outdoor sporting facility for the Hornsby and The Hills community,” planning documents state.

“The facility will cater to sporting needs of all ages and both genders.”

Hornsby Council raised potential issues with tree preservation, drainage, bushfire risk and noise levels in a 2019 meeting however, the developer states those concerns have been dealt with.

The sporting hub will be positioned more than 100m from the nearest bushfire hazard, despite being located on bushfire prone land.

Lighting for the fields is proposed to be in operation until 10pm all year round.

Planning documents state the two-storey gym and office building was appropriate for the area.

“The external appearance of the proposed gymnasium building is … consistent with the scale and character of surrounding development,” planning documents state.

The development application will be determined by Hornsby Council at a later date.
