Huge drop in crime for the Hills LAC with break and enter and theft reduced by a quarter since 2014

Crime data released by the Bureau of Crime and Statistics Research shows a huge drop in crime in the Hills.

Commander of the Hills LAC, Supt Rob Critchlow, said the command was thrilled with results.

“There has been such a dramatic turnaround since the spike in 2014.

“Break and enters are down 26.2 per cent and steal from dwelling (mail theft and similar crimes) is down 23.5 per cent.”

Also down is theft from motor vehicle, down by 24.3 per cent and malicious damage (down by 17.7 per cent)

“It is the result of proactive policing driven by intelligence and the careful targeting of offenders.

He pointed to arrests such as that of two international students charged with break and enter in Beaumont Hills and arrests by officers on Strike Force Mainsbridge which arrested and charged several people with numerous break and enters in the Baulkham Hills area.

“It’s been a really consistent effort. It’s taken a lot of hard work.

“Break Enter and Steal offence (in The Hills LAC) are now 40 per cent of the State Average, domestic violence is 40 per cent of the State average and Non domestic violence assaults are 30 per cent of the State average.

“We are making a safe area even safer but we are never satisfied. So while we celebrate improvement we retain focused on reducing crime even further.”

Baulkham Hills State MP David Elliott praised the results thanked the community for doing their bit by reporting crime and remaining vigilant.

“These results are testament to the great police work in our community and I thank Superintendent Robert Critchlow and The Hills LAC for their tireless work.”
