Greg McDermott is no stranger to challenges, but his next adventure will be his biggest yet.
McDermott, of Kenthurst, will cycle almost 15,000km around Australia with the hope of raising $50,000 for community organisation Youth Off The Streets.
The endurance athlete, also known as ‘The Fruit Guy’ because of his plant-based diet, has planned to ride an average of 180km per day for 79 days.
After losing 30kg in 2013, McDermott started participating in triathlons and has finished three Ironmans and an Ultraman.
His endurance experience will help him complete his Ride Around Oz, a total journey of 14,815km.
McDermott will leave from In Season Wholefoods on New Line Rd, Dural, on Saturday morning and ride through New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria before finishing at The Fiddler in Rouse Hill on Saturday, November 19.
Locals are invited to join the send-off celebrations at In Season Wholefoods from 7am, with McDermott officially setting off at 9am.
