Changing skylines as Sydney Metro Northwest rail link speeds up

THE highest stations in the $8.3 billion Sydney Metro Northwest rail network at Kellyville and Rouse Hill are rapidly taking shape.

The Kellyville station is around 13m above ground at the corner of Old Windsor Rd and Samantha Riley Drive while the Rouse Hill station is about 12m above ground and is right outside the Rouse Hill Town Centre and above the existing T-way.

According to Transport Minister Andrew Constance, the Sydney Metro network is the most advanced railway system in Australia.

The Kellyville and Rouse Hill stations will each have four steel lift shafts which are 13m high and weigh more than 12 tonnes.

The lifts will take customers from the ground level concourses to the platforms above.

“This 21st century railway is coming to life before our eyes — services start in the first half of next year as we deliver a brand new public transport system to Sydney, the most advanced rail system ever seen in Australia,” Mr Constance said.

“These two stations are taking shape on the skytrain high above the North West, becoming new community focal points which will give customers access to a new fully air-conditioned metro train every four minutes in the peak in each direction.”

The progress on the eight new metro stations — including Bella Vista, Castle Hill, Cherrybrook, Showground, Norwest, Cudgegong Rd — is one of the good news stories for the NSW transport bosses because of the ongoing public frustration and anger on packed or cancelled trains over the past few months.

“This is a big step forward in the delivery of this landmark project, which will forever change the way of life in the Hills region before metro rail extends to more of Sydney in 2024,” Mr Constance said.

The $8.3 billion Sydney Metro Northwest project is the first stage of the game changing Sydney Metro and includes eight new metro stations, five existing stations upgraded to metro standards and 4,000 new commuter car parking spaces.

Transport for NSW said the Sydney Metro services will start in the first half of 2018.
