FOUR murders in three suburbs are now being linked to the operations of an alleged drug syndicate.
Police searching for a motive for the execution style killing of Hung Robert Tran in Cabramatta in July believe it is connected to the unsolved homicide of another man, To Minh Tu, at Fairfield Park in 2013.
Mr Tran had no known criminal history when he was shot as he got out of his vehicle in Jasmine Crescent.
The only clue was the location which police have referred to as a drug hotspot.
In contrast, Mr Tu had a long history of custodial sentencing according to the Coroner’s Report.
Now police sources have alleged these two murders are also linked to a crime gang charged with the 2013 deaths of Son Thanh Nguyen and Thi Kim Lien.
Sources say the murders are all linked through the production and sale of illicit drugs in the area and this is the main line of inquiries.
Three members of the syndicate are being investigated by the State Crime’s Homicide Command
including a man already charged with the couple’s murder in September, an alleged “cartel queen” serving time in Silverwater’s Womens Correctional Centre on drug charges and a man charged with being an accessory to the fact.
Police statements said the 2013 murders of Mr Nguyen and Ms Lien were the result of them being lured to the Canley Vale location with the prospect of a deal to do with drugs.
The pair had a baby girl and were murdered because Nguyen had stolen drugs from the syndicate, according to court papers tendered to Fairfield court.
According to the Coroners Report, Mr Tu met his fate when he was lured to Fairfield Park, giving investigators a possible link to the gang’s method of operation.
The report stated that when Mr Tu was found in Fairfield Park by a passer-by, the contents of his bag indicated to investigators that he was about to conduct an unlawful deal at the location.
Mr Tu suffered four gunshot wounds to the right shoulder and his head and died at the scene.
It is yet to be confirmed whether Mr Tran was also lured to Jasmine Crescent.
But sources said there were subtle similarities in the methods used by his killers when Mr Tran’s car was stolen from the scene of his murder.
Investigations into the matter are still in process.
