Hung Robert Tran was shot dead as he got out of his car in Cabramatta

HUNG Robert Tran has been formally identified as the man who was shot dead at Jasmine Crescent in Cabramatta on Saturday.
Detectives are appealing for information to determine the circumstances surrounding Mr Tran’s murder at 10.45pm on July 2 and establish a motive for the murder.
Residents of Jasmine Crescent said they heard rapid ‘bangs’ which they soon realised were the sounds of a gun firing, followed by what sounded like cars speeding off.
Initial inquiries revealed Mr Tran arrived at Jasmine Crescent in his vehicle, a white 2009 model VW Golf GTI, with NSW registration CZZ29Y when he was approached and shot in the head.
It’s alleged Mr Tran’s vehicle was stolen from the scene when he was killed and the car is yet to be located.
The State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and Cabramatta Local Area Command have set up Strike Force Mackane tio investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Tran’s death.
Homicide detectives are trying to identify the possible motives for the killing of Mr Tran, who had only traffic infringements on his record and no connections to drug or gang related incidents.
Police and emergency services were called to Jasmine Crescent in Cabramatta on Saturday night, following reports of a man being fatally shot.
Police have confirmed the street is known for drug activity.
If Mr Tran’s vehicle is sighted, police are urging the public not to approach the car, but to call triple-0 (000) immediately.
