A Dubbo man who allegedly left a suspicious item on the front counter of Dubbo Police Station, forcing an almost 45-minute evacuation, has been granted bail.
Peter Gregory Carolan, 64, appeared in Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday, accompanied by corrective officers after he was entered into custody the day prior, pleading not guilty to two charges in one matter and three charges in another.
The court heard from the police prosecutor, Sergeant Adam Corrigan, that Carolan was allegedly trying to leave a modified metal tube with wires for the inspector before leaving the building, causing “grave concerns” to the people in the police station.
He has been charged with falsely representing to police an act or event calling for an investigation and leaving an article to create false belief or danger.
Carolan allegedly told police that an explosion was going to occur, resulting in the evacuation.
“You caused a bit of drama didn’t you,” Magistrate Gary Wilson told Carolan.
While noting the serious nature of the offence, Magistrate Wilson accepted Carolan’s lawyers application for his release, maintaining the same bail conditions as a separate matter where he was arrested on May 13, 2022 for allegedly entering a property on Hutchins Avenue in Dubbo.
Carolan is charged with unlawful entry on inclosed lands, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault for the alleged offences to the owner of the property.
Magistrate Wilson said Carolan cannot go to the property on Hutchins Avenue, must not contact the prosecution witnesses and must continue to reside in Jubilee Street.
He will return to Dubbo Local Court on July 17.
