A 33-year-old man will face court on Saturday after a 22-hour siege — in which he allegedly stood on a house roof yelling and throwing tiles at police, before threatening them with a knife — ended about midnight.
The incident, which saw local and Tactical Operations police surround as house in Proan Place, Dubbo, for almost a day, ended when the man entered the roof cavity of the house.
Police said he was Tasered when he allegedly tried to produce a knife.
The man was been charged with nine offences — destroy or damage property worth more than $150,000, use an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, enter premises of any person without lawful excuse, carry cutting weapon during apprehension, assault police officer, intimidate police officer, hinder or resist police officer, throw missile at police officer, and revocation of parole warrant.
Police said the incident, near the Dubbo Turf Club in NSW’s Central West district, began about 2am Friday, when patrolling police tried to speak to a man who ran from them and climbed onto the roof of a house.
He was not known to the occupants of the house.
Police at the time said a police operation was underway and Arthur Summons St had been closed.
At one stage in the afternoon a neighbour was seen passing food and water to the man on the roof.
About 11.55pm the man entered the roof cavity of the home where officers from the Tactical Operations Regional Support Unit arrested him.
There were no report of anyone being seriously injured.
The man was refused bail and is due to appear in Dubbo Local Court on Saturday.
