In court documents, police said the 18-year-old was found in possession of a sawn-off .22 calibre modified rifle, ammunition and 124 grams of cannabis leaf.

In addition to the ammunition, firearm and drug possession charges Mr Buckman pleaded guilty to, police also charged him with prohibited drug supply and accused him of knowingly taking part in the supply of cannabis.

During a brief appearance at Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday, Mr Buckman pleaded not guilty to a supply prohibited drug charge.

Defence lawyer Carmen Just said “weight was the issue” when she explained why a not guilty plea was entered.

The case returns to court in April.
