After pleading not guilty to four aggravated sexual assault charges, Dr Thet stood trial in the District Court at Dubbo.

Two women claimed the 65-year-old used his fingers to assault them without consent, however defence barrister Matthew Johnston told the jury there was a “proper medical purpose” which guided Dr Thet’s treatment of the women.

The trial lasted nine days and heard evidence from both women as well as various medical experts.

Dr Thet was supported by his wife at court during the trial.

The jury returned not guilty verdicts on Friday afternoon.

An initial jury appointed in the case was discharged after one day because of an incident which occurred during the jury selection process.
