A new bar and merchandise store are among the features of new plans for the redevelopment of Sydney Football Stadium.
Hospitality group Merivale, led by restaurant magnate Justin Hemmes, has lodged a $1.2 million proposal as part of its catering plans for the Moore Park stadium ahead of the grand reopening later this year.
Plans for a new dining venue, to be called ‘The Signature Bar’, would have a capacity for 69 people and trade as late as 11pm during sporting events and concerts.
It is understood Merivale are in talks with head chefs to fine tune the menu with an announcement expected in the coming fortnight.
The development plans will also be a merchandise store called the ‘Super Store’ that will have a range of sporting merchandise.
Hemmes – who has built an empire of Sydney venues through the Merivale brand – won a competitive bidding process to take over the hospitality venture last year.
The deal will also have the company take over food and drinks duties at the Sydney Cricket Ground where the company is planning to shake up the menu with offerings such as oysters and steak.
The deal comes with an initial term of nearly six years until September 2027.
Plans show the bar at Sydney Football Stadium would employ up to 23 people at a time.
In a statement, Justin Hemmes said winning the catering rights was a “truly unique opportunity for Merivale” – adding “we are humbled to be a part of Sydney’s sporting and entertainment history.”
The plans come ahead of September 2 reopening of the stadium which has been rebuilt from the ground up as part of the $828 million redevelopment following its closure in October 2018.
The venue will be home to the Sydney Roosters, NSW Waratahs, and Sydney FC and will feature 42,500 seats.
