A young Queensland man will face a hearing next year after pleading not guilty to two counts of dealing with proceeds of crime and possessing a commercial quantity of illegal vapes.

Jack Gilbert, 22, of the Gold Coast suburb of Tugan, was not required to appear at Wyong Local Court on Wednesday where he was represented by a lawyer.

His lawyer formally pleaded not guilty to three charges on his client’s behalf including recklessly dealing with the proceeds of crime being $4650 cash, possessing a commercial quantity of more than 100 but less than 1000 vapes and dealing with the proceeds of crime being tobacco and vaping products reasonably suspected of being illegal.

Mr Gilbert’s lawyer said they still had not received a full brief of evidence from the police and the magistrate ordered it be made available.

Charge sheets state Mr Gilbert was stopped at Wyong shortly after 6pm on August 10 and police allegedly located vapes, cigarettes, tobacco and cash.

It will be alleged in court police initially stopped Mr Gilbert in a white Ford Transit van on the M1 motorway over concerns it might have been unregistered when they allegedly found thousands of cigarettes, kilograms of loose tobacco and 995 vapes, along with cash.

Mr Gilbert’s lawyer also sought a bail variation to his client’s reporting conditions.

He told the court Mr Gilbert was reporting daily from Queensland to Tweed Heads Police Station which was “inconvenient” because it was an hour each way.

According to court documents Mr Gilbert is bailed to an address on San Michele St, Tugan, which is about 10km from the police station in NSW.

Magistrate Alan Railton adjourned the matter for hearing on October 17, 2025 and changed Mr Gilbert’s reporting condition to once every Sunday given he would be on bail for more than a year before his matter was finalised.
