With almost 250,000 social media followers, a published book and speaking engagements, Dr Steven Morgan Lin was the closest thing the Central Coast had to a celebrity dentist.

But the 40-year-old’s fall from grace took a shock new twist on Wednesday when Lin pleaded guilty to recklessly or intentionally damaging property and hindering police at his local brothel.

Charge sheets reveal police were called to Sweets Brothel at Berkeley Vale shortly before 4.30am on Saturday, September 7, following reports the dentist had smashed up a clothesline and what was described as a “building structure”.

When two officers arrived Lin resisted or hindered them in the execution of their duty.

Lin faced Wyong Local Court on Wednesday where a solicitor, acting as an agent for Streeton Lawyers, entered guilty pleas to the two offences on his behalf.

Lin also pleaded guilty to breaching an apprehended violence order (AVO) and smashing a window in a separate incident.

Charge sheets tendered in that matter state Lin visited his ex-girlfriend’s house at Berkeley Vale about 6.30pm, on the same day as his visit to the brothel earlier that morning, where he smashed a glass window and breached an AVO police had taken out to protect her.

The court heard while Lin had pleaded guilty to the four offences, the police and his lawyers were still negotiating a set of agreed facts in both matters.

The lawyer acting as agent for Lin’s solicitors told the court the dentist would be making an application to have all four charges dealt with under mental health provisions.

Lin is a director of the successful Helix Dentistry practice, which has two locations at Long Jetty and Erina, as well as a published author and podcaster who featured in a 2014 TED Talk.

His bail was continued and he was adjourned to December 11.

It comes almost a week after Lin, of Terrigal, pleaded not guilty in Wollongong Local Court to breaching an AVO and two counts of using a phone to menace.

Documents tendered during an earlier bail application in that court states Lin allegedly called his former girlfriend of 15 months, who he had recently split from, on September 14 and said: “I will kill you. I will hang you and kill you.”

About 20 minutes later Lin allegedly called his ex wife, who is also a principal at Helix Dentistry, and threatened to kill her.

“I will slit your throat and rip your head off and hang your body in the garage,” he allegedly said.

The documents stated that Lin was reported to police, who arrested him in the Illawarra, with his former girlfriend telling them he was in the midst of an ice bender.

He will face two separate hearings — one for each of the complainants — in Wollongong on April 10 and 11 next year.
