Natasha Maree Mannering to fight charges of selling fake Taylor Swift ticket

A woman accused of scamming a Taylor Swift fan out of $800 by allegedly posting a fake concert ticket online has faced court.

A woman is set to face court next year for her role in allegedly posting a fake Taylor Swift ticket online and claiming the benefits.

Natasha Maree Mannering, 41 of Bidwell, is charged with dishonesty obtaining financial advantage by deception.

According to court documents, between 11am and 12pm on December 5, 2023, Ms Mannering posted fake Taylor Tickets on Facebook Marketplace, and dishonestly obtained a financial advantage/caused a financial disadvantage of $800.

Ms Mannering did not front Wyong Local Court, however a lawyer representing her entered pleas of not guilty.

The matter will return to court for a three-hour hearing on May 8, next year.

In February last year, Taylor Swift returned to Australia for the first time in a decade to perform as part of the Eras Tour.

For three-and-a-half hours Swift delivered a stellar show in front of sold out crowds at the MCG and Accor Stadium in Sydney with many citing the concert as “the biggest concert of this generation”.

When tickets were announced, the ACCC said Taylor Swift fans looking to secure last minute tickets to the Australian leg of The Eras Tour were urged to be cautious of scammers selling fake tickets on social media.

In January 2024, one month before Taylor Swift arrived, Scamwatch had already received 273 reports of people being scammed buying Taylor Swift The Eras Tour tickets via social media since tickets went on sale in Australia in June 2023. According to the ACCC, Australians had lost over $135,000 to this scam.

Reports were most prevalent in NSW (114 reports, $54,645 lost) and Victoria (96 reports, $53,607 lost).
