A magistrate has ordered a domestic violence offender remain behind bars because “matters such as these will not be tolerated” by the community anymore.

Woy Woy labourer Kodyn Mant, 25, appeared via video link at Gosford Local Court on Friday after pleading guilty to two counts of breaching an apprehended violence order, two counts of damaging property and four counts of assault, including one causing actual bodily harm.

An agreed set of police facts states Mant had been in a relationship with a woman for six years before a final AVO was made in Wyong Local Court last August preventing him from having any contact with the woman or coming within 100m of her.

Despite the order, the facts state Mant was still spending time at the woman’s Woy Woy address when she came home about 8.30pm on September 25 last year and found him intoxicated.

“Things escalated and the offender called the victim ‘putrid’ and a ‘fat slut’,” the facts state.

“The victim begged the offender to stop.”

Mant then cornered her in the kitchen and “grabbed her by the hair” as she tried to call for help, before he began throwing things around the house.

“The victim ran outside and into the front yard. She screamed for help,” the facts state.

“The offender followed her and ‘coat-hangered’ her, he almost choked her, she was telling the offender to stop and that she couldn’t breathe.”

Mant got on top of her and pinned her down before biting her ear.

The woman managed to wriggle free and ran back inside but he kicked the door in, smashing the locks and “kept going and going” at the victim, the facts state.

She again went outside and neighbours intervened before Mant kicked the door of her car, leaving a large dent, and fled before police arrived.

After police left the victim went to bed but Mant turned up again about 1am.

“The offender jumped on the bed and started laying into the victim,” the facts state.

“He was pulling her hair and hit her more than 10 times.”

The woman was left battered and bruised.

Mant’s solicitor Jamie Clements, from Sydney Criminal Lawyers, told the court his client had “somewhat of a limited criminal history”, that it was his first time in custody and had spent eight months and 13 days in jail since his arrest.

Magistrate Les Brennan said there was “no denying” the offences were serious and made worse by the fact he was on bail at the time for unrelated matters.

Mr Brennan said community sentiment was that domestic violence was “out of control” and “matters such as these will not be tolerated”.

He sentenced Mant to 22 months jail with a non-parole period of 14 months.
