A serial shoplifter with a long rap sheet and a history of drug offences has admitted to a string of brazen thefts across the Central Coast, including stealing G-strings from Kmart at Westfield Tuggerah.
Rachel Chelsea Barnett, 45, pleaded guilty in the Wyong Local Court on Wednesday to multiple shoplifting charges.
Barnett was last charged with shoplifting in August 2023 and was placed on a community corrections order and is well known to police for drug possession offences.
On October 25, 2024, Barnett was shopping at Coles in Toukley wearing a pair of gold-rimmed sunglasses when she stole make-up items, a chocolate bar, moisturiser, and two packets of razor blades, worth a total of $300.
According to police facts, Barnett concealed the items in her handbag and left the store without attempting to pay.
On Wednesday November 20, 2024, Barnett was at Coles in Lake Haven, selected a meat tray worth $65, and continued walking through the store, selecting various grocery items totalling $300. All items were concealed within shopping bags inside her trolley.
She left the store without making an attempt to pay and caught a taxi with the stolen goods.
On November 24, Barnett was caught stealing eight chocolate bars, concealing them in her handbag before leaving the store without paying.
Two days later, at a Coles in Toukley, she was captured on CCTV footage in the personal hygiene section selecting three packets of razor blades totalling $234.
She placed the items in her black handbag and exited the store without attempting to purchase them.
At about 5pm on Friday December 20, 2024, Barnett attended Westfield Tuggerah and made her way to the Kmart department store.
She stole several items, including toys and clothing, which the court heard included G-strings.
According to court documents, she proceeded to the self-service checkout area and paid for 16 of the 36 items.
The store manager asked Barnett to return to the checkout, where she paid for six more items and handed back 14 items, totalling $357.
Barnett will appear in court again on May 21.
