A disqualified driver on his way to “see his sick grandmother” made a brazen escape from an RBT, reaching speeds of up to 170km/h and overtaking cars on the wrong side of the road.

Rehim Nejoh, also known as Edward Graham, pleaded guilty in Wyong Local Court on Tuesday to charges of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and possessing a prohibited drug.

Nejoh, 28, was driving on January 8, 2024, when he pulled into an RBT about 7.30am on Doyalson Link Rd.

According to police facts, an officer asked Nejoh to produce his licence, and Nejoh told the officer he did not have it on him.

Police checks revealed Nejoh was disqualified from driving in NSW until 2026.

Nejoh told the officer: “I just wanted to go see my sick grandmother, that’s all.”

The officer asked Nejoh if he had anything in the car that should not be there, and shortly after, Nejoh accelerated away from police.

Police pursued Nejoh, who turned onto the Pacific Hwy and was clocked at speeds of 150km/h in an 80km/h zone.

“The offender was overtaking several vehicles across unbroken separation lines as he continued at speeds of 160km/h to 170km/h in an 80km/h zone,” police facts state.

The pursuit entered the township of Wyee, where Nejoh was seen driving on the wrong side of the road and overtaking a truck at 120km/h.

Police stopped the pursuit due to the dangerous manner of his driving.

Later that morning, at 11.45am, police became aware that Nejoh was at a residence in Catherine Hill Bay.

Officers entered the house and found him in the downstairs bedroom, hiding in a built-in wardrobe.

When police placed Nejoh under arrest, they said: “What did you run for? Didn’t you think we were going to catch up with you eventually?”

Nejoh replied: “I don’t know, I’m an idiot.”

During a search of the bedroom, police also found a vial of testosterone.

Nejoh will be sentenced on May 8.
