A man is ‘likely’ to admit to allegedly robbing an elderly couple before shooting their dog with an air rifle but is not ready to enter a plea to separate drug supply charges, a court has heard.
Shay Horn, 34, of The Entrance, was not required to appear via video link from custody at Gosford Local Court on Friday where his solicitor said her client was “likely” to plead guilty over an alleged armed robbery offence.
Charge sheets tendered to court allege Horn entered the motor home of a couple, aged in their 60s, who were asleep in their motorhome about 11pm on December 10, 2023, which was parked at Pelicans Wharf, The Entrance North.
Police allege Horn was armed with a shortened air rifle and demanded money before stealing the man’s Harley Davidson branded leather wallet and a lighter.
The wallet contained the man’s bank card and about $300 cash.
Police further allege Horn then fired a shot at the couple’s one-year-old poodle named “Rosie”, which suffered a facial wound but the injury was not considered life-threatening.
Tuggerah Lakes Police attended and following a foot patrol of the area, located Horn who was allegedly still armed with the Diana Mod 25 0.177 caliber shortened air rifle.
Police also charged him with two counts of possessing prohibited drugs after they allegedly found 0.9g of meth and 3.2g of cannabis on him at the time.
The court heard Horn was later charged with supplying a commercial quantity of 997g of meth, a small amount of cocaine and participating in a criminal group about four months earlier at Erina in August 2023.
Horn’s solicitor said her client was not in a position to enter any pleas in relation to those allegations and he was adjourned to March 7.
