A man charged with the alleged sexual assault of two women in 1996 — one of which who allegedly “recognised” him when he delivered a parcel to her door — will face trial.
Shannon George Roberts, 53, of Cooranbong, faced Wyong Local Court on Tuesday where he pleaded not guilty to six charges including inflicting harm with intent to have sexual intercourse, aggravated breaking and entering, stalking and two counts of assault with an act of indecency.
Another three charges, including aggravated breaking and entering and two counts of stalking, were withdrawn and dismissed.
Mr Roberts will face Gosford District Court on March 6 to fix a trial date.
Charge sheets tendered to court allege Mr Roberts inflicted actual bodily harm when he tried to have sex with a woman at Lake Munmorah some time between October 1996 and January 1997.
Police will allege in court he also committed an act of indecency against her.
Mr Roberts is further accused of aggravated breaking and entering of a second woman’s house just 600m away some time in December 1996.
The then 25-year-old allegedly broke into that woman’s house and tried to forcibly remove her clothes, according to the charge sheets.
No one was ever previously charged in relation to the allegations.
Police will allege in court that the first victim, now aged in her 60s, answered the door of her same house on February 27 last year when a delivery man arrived with some goods.
The pair spoke briefly and police will allege Mr Roberts complimented the woman on her looks before leaving.
Police allege the woman “recognised” Mr Roberts as the same man who allegedly sexually assaulted her in late 1996 or early 1997.
Officers further allege, in charge sheets, that Mr Roberts had stalked the woman some time in the week leading up to their brief encounter at her door and he trespassed on a neighbouring property with intent to break and enter her residence.
Mr Roberts’ bail was continued.
