Plans for a $14.6m seniors housing development have been lodged in Terrigal.

Valley Planning has submitted plans to Central Coast Council to redevelop the site at 19 and 21 Painters Lane, just metres from Terrigal Esplanade and beach.

The plans include a three storey seniors housing development which will have 25 self contained units.

“The proposal will result in the demolition of two existing single dwellings to facilitate the construction of a multi-storey unit development that will cascade down the sloping site,” the plans state.

The development also includes a three split level basement carpark with 34 spaces with access to the site off Painters Lane.

Valley Planning has stated that a traffic light system would be introduced on Painters Lane to ensure local residents are not impacted by the development.

They say that the plans exceed the 8.5m height limit in three “small” sections due to the “cascading topography to the hillside” and has asked the council to approve the noncompliance.

A majority of the apartments will be two bedroom, however there will also be studio and three bedroom apartment options.

“The proposed development provides for a new high quality, design-led development located in close proximity to the services of Terrigal and views of the ocean,” the plans state.

“The development provides for a range of units to meet various requirements of a demographic in this location. The development will offer additional housing stock in a suitable location of the Central Coast that will assist both the demographics of the area and provide additional population in the growing town of Terrigal to boost and maintain the economic viability of the area.”

It comes as plans for a three-storey “new generation” boarding house around the corner in Terrigal attracts local objections.

The plans for 23 Ash St, valued at just over $1m, remain open for public comment until Friday.

They include 10 rooms, catering for a maximum of 13 residents, communal room and outdoor recreation space.

The applicant said they would cater to key workers and low income earners, front line workers, older persons as well as younger workers and students.

The plans have attracted more than a dozen objections with concerns regarding parking and the development not being suited to the character of the area.
