It appears Target is out and a new sporting megastore could be bound for Erina Fair.
Leadlease has lodged plans with Central Coast Council to make changes to the popular Terrigal Dr shopping centre, in particular focusing on the area currently filled by Target and the rooftop carpark next door.
The $5.1m plans include changes to the northeastern section to cater for the arrival of French sports clothing giant Decathlon.
“The alterations involve facade amendments, including signage, a new entry, and rooftop mechanical deck,” the plans state.
“A new pedestrian access bridge will also be provided from the carpark to the centre as well as a (multipurpose) sports courts to be used by customers of Decathlon to test sporting equipment.”
The plans also request the removal of 16 spaces in the rooftop carpark which houses the current Big W and Target entrances, while the entrance to Australia Post will be getting revamped.
The proposal states the pedestrian bridge will improve access to the centre and there will be no changes to the external road network.
Lendlease indicates that the Fair currently has 4878 carparks and the removal of 16 will not impact parking demands.
“The proposed alterations to the Erina Fair Centre allows for an improved building facade presentation; better pedestrian connectivity; and facilitates future tenancy operations,” the plans state.
“It is located within a growth corridor and is proposed during a time when employment growth is critical for the Coast.”
Decathlon, which opened its first Australian store in Tempe, specialises in active clothing, equipment and sports shoes. It will be the second sporting retailer at the Fair with Rebel located on the opposite side of the centre.
Target announced its plans to close a number of Australia-wide stores, or rebrand to Kmart, in early 2021 however Erina was not on the list.
It’s no secret that the Erina Target store has been the quietest of the major retailers at the shopping centre including Myer, Kmart, Big W and Best and Less.
It comes as many empty holes are being filled due to closures during the pandemic such as Jamaica Blue and Yoghurtland which are set to be replaced by Pattison’s Patisserie and Oliver Brown Belgium Chocolate Cafe.
Plans for a $50,000 fit out of a Dr Martens store in the centre have also been approved.
Plans have also been recently lodged to council for
