A woman has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly bashing another woman’s head in.

Krystal Lee Begg, 29, was not required to appear in court when her matter was first mentioned after being charged with the alleged attempted murder of another woman at Ourimbah last month.

Tuggerah Lakes police officers were called to Walmsley Rd at Ourimbah about 10.20am on Monday, July 3, following “a concern for welfare report”, where they found a woman, in her 30s, with critical head wounds.

“A woman was found unresponsive with serious injuries, and flown to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition,” police said in a statement.

The 33-year-old woman, who was later identified as young mum Sara-Jane Christiensen, spent the next fortnight clinging to life in hospital.

On August 22, detectives attended Silverwater Correctional Centre and spoke with a 29-year-old woman.

Following further inquiries, the woman was charged with attempted murder and remains in custody.

The woman, Krystal Lee Begg, was not required to appear via video link when her matter was mentioned briefly in Wyong Local Court on Wednesday.

Her Legal Aid solicitor told the court she was already in custody, having been refused bail on unrelated matters, and did not wish to make a release application.

She was adjourned to face the same court on October 17.

Charge sheets tendered in court allege she attempted to murder Ms Christiensen some time between July 2 and 10am the following morning.

Her arrest came after the alleged victim’s family made an emotional appeal for public information following Ms Christiensen’s alleged attack.

Her younger brother Jake spoke at a press conference at Wyong Police Station on July 19 saying Ms Christiensen “may never fully recover from the severe injuries that have left her disabled”.

Tuggerah Lakes Superintendent Chad Gillies said Ms Christiensen was found unconscious by her flatmate who arrived home on the Monday morning and called triple-0.

He said Ms Christiensen allegedly suffered “blunt force trauma” injuries and there was no sign of forced entry to her unit.

Ms Christiensen’s family said she was the mother of two young boys but they were not home at the unit at the time.
