Central Coast restaurants: BMX Burgers, Umina Beach

That’s it. We’re calling it. This is the Central Coast’s most mouth-watering, heart-stopping, drool-inducing burger. Just look at it!

Hidden in Umina Beach is an unassuming burger bar — blink and you might miss it but stop and the rewards are endless.

With think and succulent burger patties, and towers of fresh ingredients — not to mention cocktails and milkshakes from heaven — BMX Burgers is one of the coast’s rare and glorious gems that needs to be on everyone’s must list.

BMX Burgers have been open for just over a year, with owner Marc Tucker and his family relocating from Sydney to the coast.

Mr Tucker has been a chef for 22 years, coming from a fine dining background. Loving the relaxed atmosphere of the coast, he decided to take on a new adventure and show off his creativity in the burger world.

“This is different but really creative,” he said.

“We have new burgers every month. There’s a trend at the moment bringing fine dining into casual foods. We have created easy and relaxed dining. The food is consistent, fresh and innovative. We have some very cool ideas.”

The retro burger bar is themed on the 80s cult movie BMX Bandits and, much like the movie, this place has attracted a cult-like following among burger fans.

As sure as Nicole Kidman’s perm in the hit movie, you will walk away wondering if you have ever had a better burger. I haven’t.

We sampled a range of the burgers, with one of my favourites The Boss, with two luscious Angus beef patties, double apple maple bacon, American cheddar, caramelised onions, BMX pickles and smoky BBQ sauce. Are you drooling yet?

Next the Creep, with the crispiest yet succulent fried chicken, cheddar, BMX slaw and a spicy mango jam.

And The Grouse - a huge hit on the menu - with 12 hour braised beef brisket, Angus beef patty and all the trimmings including pork crackling. Every bite is simply amazing.

On to the loaded fries, packed with cheesy gravy, apple maple bacon and shallots, along with deliciously seasoned and salty popcorn chicken.

Dessert is also a hit, with the rainbow ice cream sandwich stack featuring two of the best cookies I have ever tried, and the cinnamon doughnut bowl.

Cocktails and milkshakes are also a must, with my favourite the white chocolate passionfruit milkshake. There’s also great burger choices for the kids.
